With the Golden Gate Bridge soaring over the Marina neighborhood skyline, Smitten Founder Robyn Fisher spied the perfect space for our newest Smitten shop.
Opened to the public July 2nd at noon, this storefront lies smack dab in the hub of the Marina, on Chestnut Street between Avila and Scott. Just a stone’s throw from some of the city’s coolest shops and restaurants (looking at you, Tacolicious), we’re expecting big things out of this small space. (So small, in fact, that our 1,500 L tank of liquid nitrogen had to be installed by a crane through the skylight on the roof!) But it’s not just the location we’re excited about – it’s the building itself.
A deep dive into local record books shows that Royal Clement Eastman opened Eastman’s Ice Cream and Confectionary in 1932 at 2268 Chestnut – the exact footprint where we’ve opened. Royal clearly had some gumption to go along with that awesome name, since he opened an ice cream shop in the middle of the Great Depression… which reminds us of another gutsy ice cream aficionado.
